Madison
County is bounded on the north by Leon County, on the east by Houston County,
on the south by Grimes and Walker counties, and on the west by Robertson and
Brazos Counties. Madisonville, the county seat and largest town, is near interstate
Highway 45 about 100 miles northwest of Houston. In 2005, approximately 16,192
people were living in Madison County. The scenic Texas Brazos Trail runs through
Madison County, and Madisonville hosts the Texas Mushroom Festival in October.
